2. Substituted Service (Delivery to Another Adult)

If another adult is present at the residence or workplace, the documents may be delivered to a co‑resident, family member, roommate, coworker, receptionist, or building staff.

• The intended recipient does not need to be present
• The server records who accepted the documents
• Used when another adult is available to receive the documents

About Signatures

Neither method requires a signature. Servers cannot force anyone to sign or acknowledge receipt. If the recipient or another adult refuses to sign, the server will continue according to the selected method and document the interaction.

About Due Diligence Attempts

Due Diligence refers to the attempt process that must be completed before Posting or Substituted Service. It is not a delivery method.

This process may include:

• Attempts on different days
• Attempts at both home and work locations
• Recording each attempt with time, location, and result

After Due Diligence is completed, the server proceeds with Posting or Substituted Service based on the situation.
